The Hong Kong Prize was established to encourage students to take up the subject of hongkong history and culture in their studies. It is open to all students of secondary schools, tertiary schools and higher education institutions in Hong Kong. Winners of the prize will be awarded with a cash prize, a certificate and a trophy. The prize is supported by the Hong Kong Jockey Club.
The 8th Inter-school Competition of Study Projects on Hong Kong History and Culture, organised by the Hong Kong Museum of History in collaboration with the Hong Kong Institute for Promotion of Chinese Culture, has been successfully completed today (September 25). The competition aims to enhance students’ knowledge of Hong Kong history and culture, as well as to encourage them to learn actively outside class through thorough research into the relationship between historical developments and changes in society.
Prof. Cecilia L. Chu has won the 2024 International Planning History Society Book Prize for her monograph Building Colonial Hong Kong: Speculative Development and Segregation in the City. The prize was established with funds donated by the late Professor Wang Gungwu, a former vice-chancellor of The University of Hong Kong.
This year, the HKUST-Hang Lung Math Awards (“HLMA”) attracted more than 1,200 entries from students across the territory. Kyan CHEUNG Ka-hin and Ethan SOH Jon-yi from Harrow International School Hong Kong won the Gold Award for their research report titled On the Properties of the Semigroup Generated by the RL Fractional Integral. They were selected as the winners based on their strong problem-solving abilities and creativity in finding solutions to mathematical problems.
At a ceremony held yesterday evening at the HKCEC, The Hon John KC Lee delivered opening remarks virtually. Adriel CHAN, Vice Chair of Hang Lung Properties, also moderated a stimulating Fireside Chat with Dr. Owen KO, 2004 HLMA winner and Assistant Dean (Research) of the Faculty of Medicine at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, and Ms. Ewina PUN, 2012 HLMA winner and doctoral candidate at Brown University. They shared their insights and unique perspectives on the importance of pursuing excellence in STEAM education, as well as the transformative power of mathematics.
In order to further support athletes in their pursuit of glory at the Paris Olympic Games, the Hong Kong Sports Institute and the Hong Kong Jockey Club have launched a three-year incentive programme. Under this initiative, athletes who secure top-three placements in individual events will receive cash prizes of up to HK$1.5 million. Those who win the marathon will receive additional special incentives, as runners of permanent Hong Kong residence crossing the finish line in under 3 hours for men and sub 3:30 for women will receive an extra HK$10,000 each.
